Carron Valley Reservoir
Overview: Inland reservoir, restricted access, shared with fishermen
Location: Hills, West of Stirling.
Directions:
  • M9 north towards Stirling
  • M9 Exit 8, M876 towards Glasgow
  • M876 Exit 1, onto A883 (Bonnybridge/Denny/Falkirk)
  • At roundabout, take third exit (A883)
  • Turn right onto A883 (Stirling Street)
  • Bear left onto A872 (Nethermains Road)
  • After 7 miles, turn right onto B818
  • Continue through Carron Bridge and past the reservior dam
  • Best launching point is about a mile or so down the reservoir, where a small track heads off the left of the road to a gate. Park in next to the gate.
Restrictions: 2004 Update: Due to the reduced membership of the CWSC, we can't afford the Public Liability Insurance required to sail on Carron Valley Reservoir. If you want to sail here and are not a member of the CWSC, JOIN NOW!

Sailing allowed until 31st October 2003

  • Monday through Thursday sunrise to sunset
  • Sundays from 1pm to sunset...

Maximum of 20 people on the water at any one time. All cars must display the Yellow badge in window.

Life jackets must be worn at all times.

There is a national angling competion from the 4th to the 6th of August during which we're not allowed on...

Notes: Various members of the club have been up to the reservoir over the last year or so. In a South Westerly, the wind comes almost straight across the loch to the launching area, so it makes launching fun.

In a South Westerly, the wind is also fairly gusty, as it comes across the hills to the South. Best directions are probably South Easterly or North Westerly.
