Elie
Overview: Sea, North shore of the Firth of Forth.
Location: 1.5hrs mins North East of Edinburgh
Directions:
  • Leave Edinburgh on the A90 towards the Forth Road Bridge (Toll - 80p)
  • Leave the M90 at exit 2A (A92)
  • Follow the A92 dual carriageway for about 10 miles
  • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto A921
  • At then next roundabout, take the first exit (A915)
  • Stay on A915 for about 10 miles
  • Just after you pass through Lundin Links and Lower Largo (on the A915), follow the A917 which bears off to the right.
  • Follow the A917 for about 5 miles into Elie.
  • When you get into Elie, you go around a sharp (90degrees) left hand bend. Continue past the small set of trees on the right hand side in an island. Just after the island, is a road off to the right signposted for the harbour.
  • Take the road to the harbour and follow it all the way down past the Ship Inn and Elie Watersports (on the right).
  • Parking is available a the bottom of the road on the left hand side. During the summer months, it's a pound.
Notes: Elie has a decent beach and normally attracts a number of sailors; mainly those based on the North of the Firth of Forth. At low tide, the majority of the beach is exposed, and the sailing conditions are probably at their best. At high tide, the rocks to the West of the harbour are just under water - in that fin-breaking manner.

Also located at Elie is Elie Watersports. They provide hire and instruction for sailing and windsurfing, amongst other things. Their contact details are on their website.
